Now that sports are slowly picking up pace, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) are already looking at ways to bring back the fans in a small scale into stadiums.

They know that the presence of fans will enliven the atmosphere.

MFL chief executive officer Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan (pic) said they would revisit their application to allow supporters back in the arena when Covid-19 cases drop.

They had made an application to the Youth and Sports Ministry regarding the spectators last November.

“If all goes well, we hope to have at least 10 per cent of spectators in stadiums in the next two to three months,” said Ab Ghani in a statement.

“We want all our venues with our local fans cheering for their teams in small numbers for a start. That’s our goal.”

Ab Ghani also thanked Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for his support as they look forward to the restart of the Malaysian League on March 5.

Yesterday, Ab Ghani also announced the official fixtures for the Super and Premier leagues respectively.

The season will begin with the Charity Shield game between defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and league runners-up Kedah at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on March 5.

Ab Ghani hopes all the teams will make the best preparation now that they are on the verge of starting.

“I hope teams will stay focused and disciplined in complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government during the movement control order (MCO) period,” he said.

“I know it’s not an easy time for teams but I’m confident that all parties will perform their duties well to avoid any football-related Covid-19 clusters.”
