Duo continue streak of excellence
TAR UC students ace ACCA exams again
HAVING been inducted into Tunku Abdul Rahman University College’s (TAR UC) growing list of top ACCA prize winners, Yew Bi Sheng and Chen Siong Han continue a legacy of excellence in the December 2020 ACCA Examination.
The Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) students ranked first in Malaysia and eighth in the world for the Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) paper elevating Malaysia to new heights on the global stage, TAR UC said in a recent press release.
TAR UC has more than 5,000 accounting students, the largest among all private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia.
To date, TAR UC has 82 winners and 105 prizes in the ACCA professional examinations.
Recalling his tight revision period, Chen was over the moon to know that his hard work had paid off.
“I was shocked when I was informed as I never thought I would do so well and exceed my expectations!” he exclaimed.
Chen sat for both the SBR and Strategic Business Leader (SBL) papers in the December 2020 sitting and had only two months to prepare for it after his finals.
“Although I set quite an intensive study plan to cover all aspects for both papers, I have also learntthroughout my studies to think outside the box and not just rely on study materials when preparing for exams.
“This allowed me to adapt and think ahead,” he said.
Upon graduating, Chen plans to either take his master’s degree or obtain a professional certification in finance or business data analytics to expand his knowledge beyond the field of accounting.
“After that, I plan to pursue a career in auditing in the financial services industry.”
Also planning on venturing into auditing after graduation, Yew hopes to expand his knowledge by working in the field and building his career from there.
He described the achievement as a driving force for him to strive towards accomplishing more in the future.
“When I was going through the revision kit before the exam, I struggled to understand concepts that were not covered in the workbook.
“But I managed to overcome that with the help of my lecturers, classmates and of course, the Internet.
“The most important thing I have learnt throughout my studies is that having a strong foundation can help tremendously.
“Because of my tutors and lecturers who imparted in us the right knowledge, I am able to pursue many different opportunities,” he shared.
Aside from successfully overcoming the challenges they each faced while preparing for the examination, both were able to adapt and fully utilise online learning to their advantage.
“Online learning has changed my way of studying.
“It was a different learning experience having lessons online. Although I still prefer face-to-face learning as it is more convenient to communicate directly with my lecturers and classmates, over time I have grown accustomed to online learning and am able to study effectively,” shared Yew.
For Chen, switching to online learning was an advantage as not having to commute to class meant that he had more time to study.
