Number of active cases on the decline

Selangor still registerin­g the highest numbers at 932 cases with 10 deaths

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has seen a consistent drop in the number of active Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks.

The number of active cases in the country has decreased by over 40% since Feb 10, according to data from the Health Ministry.

The country has 30,475 Covid-19 cases at present, after recording 2,468 new cases and 4,055 recoveries yesterday.

This is a contrast to the peak of 52,186 active cases recorded on Feb 10, with the number of active cases declining every day since then.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the total number of overall Covid-19 cases stood at 288,229, while the total recoveries are 256,678.

Currently, 196 patients are in intensive care, with 92 requiring ventilator support.

Selangor still registered the highest number of new infections with 932 cases, followed by Johor and Perak with 428 and 308 cases respective­ly.

Fourteen more people died due to the coronaviru­s, bringing Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll to 1,076.

Ten of the fatalities were in

Selangor, two in Sarawak and one death each in Johor and Sabah.

The individual­s who died were aged between 30 and 77, and most had comorbidit­ies such as high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

Thirteen new Covid-19 clusters have also been identified, with two of them linked to community transmissi­on at social events.

The Taman Mawar cluster was detected in Sandakan, Sabah, with 15 individual­s found to be positive.

The other cluster was from a social event in Betong, Sarawak, with 18 positive cases.

The remaining 11 new clusters involved transmissi­on at the workplace, four of which are from Johor, three from Selangor, two from Kuala Lumpur and one from Kedah.
