Olusegun eyes goals galore to make Red Giants’ fans happy

PETALING JAYA: How to keep Selangor fans happy throughout the season?

Nigerian striker Ifedayo Olusegun has come up with a simple solution – keep slamming in the goals for the Red Giants.

The Golden Boot winner with 12 goals last season aims to score in every match and hope that they will lift at least one trophy this year.

“The most important thing is to win something this year as that will show that we have progressed. I want to see a big smile on the faces of the fans,” said Olusegun, who is in his third season.

“My job is to score goals on a regular basis and I want to score one or two in every game. I want more goals than last season,” said Olusegun.

Olusegun will not be the lone striker as Selangor have signed another goal poacher in Shahrel Fikri Md Fauzi.

Shahrel was Perak’s top scorer last season with 10 goals while another hitman, Danial Ahmad Asri from Selangor II, was the team’s leading scorer with seven.

“I do not see the two strikers as my competitors. We support each other for the team’s betterment.

“How can we compete against other teams if we have a rivalry going on?

“We will work together as a team. All of us aim to help this club rebuild their reputation.”

As for life under coach Karsten Neitzel, Olusegun is loving it.

“I’ve trained with the team for more than a week now and I find him to be technically sound.

“I’ve learnt many things. He has vast experience coaching in Europe, so that knowledge is crucial for us.”

Selangor, who finished fifth last season, will open their campaign against Pahang on March 6.
