Fu resigns as SMG director and chairman of board
PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) announced that independent non-executive chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow (pic ) has resigned as director and chairman of the board.
In a statement, SMG said the resignation of Fu takes effect from March 1, 2021, and that the board would make the necessary effort to identify a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.
Fu said it was an honour and privilege to have served the board of SMG and extended his gratitude to all directors, management and staff for their support, cooperation, patience and understanding during his tenure as chairman of the board.
He submitted his resignation to the board in a meeting held on Feb 25 and said it was time to give way to new leadership and that he wished to spend more time with his family.
Fu said SMG, after a restructuring exercise, now has a capable, united, dedicated and young top management team and with the appointment of Alex Yeow as the new group CEO to lead the team, he expressed confidence that the transformation programmes undertaken would eventually bear fruit and propel the group to new heights.
He urged all directors, management and staff to give Yeow their full support and cooperation to ensure the future success of the group.
With his resignation, Fu also stepped down as chairman of Star Foundation, the charity arm of SMG.
Fu was appointed to be the independent non-executive director of SMG on Feb 27, 2014, and had been chairman of the board since May 21, 2014.
SMG’s board of directors expressed their utmost gratitude to Fu for his contribution and stewardship to the group.
