Former Pahang Amanah chief moves on from PKR to Pejuang

-

KUANTAN: A former state Parti Amanah Negara leader has joined forces with Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, but not before stopping by PKR first.

Hamzah Jaafar, who was previously the Pahang Amanah chief, was announced by Pejuang as its new state chief in a notice released on Sunday.

However, Hamzah had left for PKR first after losing the defence of his position in the Amanah elections in 2019.

Pahang Pakatan Harapan chairman Fuziah Salleh said Hamzah had wanted to join PKR after he lost in the Amanah elections.

“I didn’t make any decision because I wanted to consult the Amanah leaders in Pahang. I value our relationship with them,” said Fuziah, who is state PKR chief.

She only discovered that Hamzah had joined the party when his membership was approved.

“Apparently, he filled up the form. I don’t know the process as it was not through Pahang and not through me as the state leadership.

“It could have been done online because we get lots of applications online,” she added.

Fuziah said Hamzah gave her a heads-up about an offer from Pejuang.

“My advice to him was that the decision belonged to him and must be based on his own conviction and value system with regard to the party’s struggle,” she added.

In the last general election, Hamzah contested the Dong state seat in Raub in a three-way match that was won by Barisan Nasional.

He obtained 2,342 votes against Barisan’s Datuk Seri Shahiruddin Ab Moin (6,294 votes) and Bedu Rahim of PAS (2,462 votes).
