Consider buffer along district borders

THE initial restriction of travelling only 10km from home under the movement control order has been lifted to the great relief of many.

Then an additional condition was added, stating that movement in excess of 10km is only allowed if it takes place within one’s own district. As an illustration, the authorities said that Wilayah Kuala Lumpur is considered a single district. Therefore, a resident of KL cannot cross into Selangor state.

What was meant to provide greater flexibility of travel has turned into a nightmare for me and possibly tens of thousands residing along the KL/Selangor border. Previously, I could drive my daughter to her office in Bandar Puchong Jaya, Selangor, from Overseas Union Garden, KL, over a distance of several kilometres with no restrictions. The new district crossing ruling now makes it a violation of the SOP that is punishable with a hefty fine. By the same token people in Petaling Jaya Old Town, Selangor, are now prohibited from patronising the wet market in Jalan Kelang Lama in KL just a short distance away.

I am sure the inconveniences of this new restriction were unforeseen by the National Security Council (MKN) at the time it was announced and should be remedied. Would the MKN consider introducing a 10km buffer on either side of district boundaries so that thousands residing near borders can continue to travel beyond their districts to destinations that are necessary to visit in their daily lives?
