Kg Tasek hit by freak storm
Roofs and walls of homes blown off
IPOH: Security guard Shahrulhisam Saharin huddled together with his four daughters and wife throughout a freak storm that ripped off the roof and walls of his wooden house in Kampung Tasek near here.
The 49-year-old said he did not know what else to do throughout their 20-minute ordeal, adding that the first thing on his mind was to carry his 19-year-old disabled daughter to the living room with his three other girls.
“We hugged each other and did not really know what hit us. Everything happened too fast.
“I thought if something should happen, then we are all together.
“When the storm passed, I quickly took my disabled daughter and made her sit inside my car while the rest of us waited under the porch,” he added.
Shahrulhisam related the matter to Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran who visited the affected houses at his constituency yesterday.
Wednesday’s storm damaged over 100 of the mostly wooden homes at the village, affecting over 300 families.
Another badly damaged house belonged to Maimon Dollah, 59, who was at home with her husband, daughter and two toddlers she was babysitting.
Maimon said it suddenly started to rain heavily at about 3pm and within minutes, the roof was blown off, causing water to gush in.
“My furniture and electrical items are all destroyed.
“We sat in the kitchen area and slept there as well,” she added.
Badariah Rahad, 64, said her daughter-in-law and her three-yearold grandson came running to her house located just opposite when the storm broke.
“My son was at work at that time and his wife and son ran out in the heavy rain as they were afraid their house was going to collapse.
“Their TV, fridge and other electrical items are all damaged because water had entered the home,” she added.
Kulasegaran said his officers had informed the relevant government agencies for assistance and had called a contractor to assess the damages.
