Win-win solution in transfer controversy

- SAC1 (R) DATUK WEE BENG GEE Petaling Jaya

I AM sure Malaysians from all walks of life are very happy that the recent controversy over the transfer of senior police officers was resolved amicably. It was indeed a win-win solution for all, particularly the rakyat, because it would ensure continuity in the provision of good policing service to the public.

On April 13, for example, we witnessed the smooth transfer of duties to Commissioner Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim for the Kuala Lumpur police chief’s post.

The transfer of police officers is an annual affair to ensure efficient delivery of high quality service to the rakyat.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is currently under the spotlight over the unethical conduct of some of its officers. The Inspector General of Police himself has revealed the involvement of some of his officers with organised crime syndicates and the underworld.

If these malpractices are allowed to continue, it will be disastrous for the police force, which is the main law enforcement agency in the country.

There’s no two ways about it; those found to be involved in criminal activities must be purged from the force. A lean force with integrity is anytime better than a huge entity with no integrity.

I wish the PDRM the very best and hope it will prove to the rakyat that it is still a force to be reckoned with!

Serve with pride and integrity!
