More than 1,000 new cases in Klang Valley alone

PETALING JAYA: The Klang Valley has logged a little over 1,000 new Covid-19 cases, which make up a large majority of the 2,331 cases recorded nationwide in the latest daily figures, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Of the states, Selangor led with 751 new cases and Kuala Lumpur was third with 252 cases for a total of 1,003 yesterday.

Sarawak registered the second highest total with 512 cases.

In Selangor, 623 cases were linked to clusters or identified from close contact tracing of active Covid19 patients.

Eight new Covid-19 clusters were also reported, bringing the total number of active clusters to 347.

Four of the new clusters were from workplaces, three from schools and education institutions, and one was a community cluster.

The Jalan Ding Lik Kwong cluster (16 cases) in Sibu, Sarawak, the Jalan Damai Tawau (14 cases) and Bukit Quoin (11 cases) clusters in Tawau, Sabah, and the Jalan Wawasan Lima cluster (10 cases) in Batu Pahat, Johor were linked to workplaces.

Sarawak’s Ulu Balingian cluster (101 cases) in Selangau and Jalan Disa cluster (20 cases) in Sibu were linked to schools or education institutions. The Jalan Maktab cluster (nine cases) – spanning Sepang and Hulu Langat in Selangor as well as Putrajaya – was also linked to schools and education institutions.

The Seri Kuantan cluster (18 cases) in Kuantan, Pahang and Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, was linked to an event held in Kuala Lumpur on April 10.

Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 cases are now 372,859 with the 2,331 new infections. The number of active cases has risen to 19,094.

Five more people succumbed to Covid-19 in Malaysia, bringing the nation’s death toll to 1,370.

The Health Ministry said the deceased were all Malaysians.

The two deaths in Selangor involved a 78-year-old-man and a 76-year-old-woman.

In Sabah, a 61-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman died from the virus while the death in Sarawak was of a 68-year-old woman.

The number of patients in intensive care units is now 225, with 92 on ventilator support.

A total of 1,832 Covid-19 patients were discharged from treatment. A cumulative total of 352,395 have recovered.
