PUTRAJAYA: Ten districts in Kelantan are now under the movement control order, with Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang being the latest starting today following a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said health authorities reported an 83.9% increase in the number of cases over the past 14 days in the three districts, shooting up from 18 cases to 112.

The three districts have been categorised as red zones.

“After a risk analysis and on the Health Ministry’s advice, the government has agreed to place the three districts under MCO until April 29.

“This will allow authorities to monitor and control the movement of people in the localities so that infectivity can be contained,” he said yesterday.

On April 16, the government had announced MCO in seven districts in Kelantan until April 29, following a 30% rise in the number of positive cases.

The districts are Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Machang, Tumpat and Tanah Merah.

Ismail Sabri also announced the enforcement of enhanced MCO in three residential areas – Taman Aman 3, Taman Aman Jaya and Taman Palm Height – in Lahad Datu, Sabah, also beginning today.

He said health authorities had recorded 45 Covid-19 positive cases from the three localities – 24 cases in Taman Aman 3, Taman Aman Jaya (10) and Taman Palm Height (11).

“The health authorities reported that infectivity is still occurring among residents in the three localities, with most of the cases involving infections among those from the same house.

“Following this, the government has agreed to place these localities under enhanced MCO until May 5,” he added.
