25 detained over four Raya-themed gambling ads
A total of 25 individuals has been detained by the police so far in connection with four Hari Raya-themed gambling advertisements, say Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.
He said 13 people were arrested for their alleged involvement on the first video, while six others were held in connection with the second video. Four more people were arrested in connection with the third video while two were arrested in connection with the fourth video.
“The first video emerged last Thursday. This was followed by the other three videos during the next few days.
“So far, 12 people, including the 35-year-old main suspect who was ordered by a gambling syndicate to organise the production of the videos, are still being remanded.
“The others, including the actors in the videos, have been released on police bail,” he said when contacted yesterday.
ACP Mohamad Zainal said the police will forward the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor once the probe is completed.
Investigations revealed that each actor was paid about RM180.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani earlier said the police will cooperate with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in the investigation.
He also called on the public not to share or spread the video on social media as it might cause public unrest.
The string of arrests began with the detention of eight individuals last Friday.
The main suspect was arrested last Sunday along with four others.
