• Zaquan finds scoring boots with old club

-

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak has regained the killer instinct with his childhood club in the Premier League.

At 33, many felt his best years as a top striker is well behind him. But against Kelantan last weekend, he proved them wrong with two worldclass goals in Negri Sembilan’s 2-1 win.

His first was a sumptuous half volley in the fourth minute and the winner in the 70th minute came off a beautifully placed shot from 20 metres.

Zaquan returned to his home state after a miserable spell at Super League club Kedah where he only scored two goals in 27 matches during the 2019-2020 season.

“It’s nice to get those goals but it’s the three points that matters because our aim is the Super League. Every point is precious,” said Zaquan, who has scored four goals in four matches.

He added that Negri really wanted a victory after failing to collect full points in two previous games – against Kelantan United (2-3) and Kuching City (0-0).

“The win against Kelantan put us on top of the league above favourites Sarawak United although we are ahead by just a point.

“The fight for the title and promotion will be close as there are at least four teams who can deny us.”

But for now, Zaquan hopes they will prevail in the top-of-table clash against Sarawak United at home on Saturday.

They will tread with caution despite their opponents’ shock 0-2 loss to Police last Friday.

“They will come charging at us to redeem themselves. It will be a tough match and we have to be on our toes at all times. This clash will determine how far we can go this season.”
