Two reports lodged over claims about India flights

PETALING JAYA: Two police reports have been lodged against claims made on social media about supposed arrival of passenger flights from India at the KL International Airport on May 1, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“This is to ensure that the public is not confused by baseless allegations aimed at causing public unrest,” he said.

Dr Wee explained that Malaysia Airlines does not fly in passengers from India, in line with a government directive in view of the Covid19 situation in that country.

“It is clear that there was no individual named Ajit Prasat on flight MH191 as alleged,” he wrote on Facebook yesterday, in reference to a Facebook comment by one Muhammad Fahmi Abdullah.

Muhammad Fahmi subsequently acknowledged that it was a cargo flight and thanked Dr Wee for investigating the matter.

In a statement earlier, Malaysia Airlines said that it had lodged a police report against two individuals for their erroneous claims on social media.

“Malaysia Airlines finds the accusation by certain individuals detrimental not only to its reputation but views it as a threat to the country’s credibility in curbing the spread of Covid-19,” it said.

Since the country imposed a temporary ban on the entry of Indian nationals on April 28, the national carrier had cancelled all its scheduled passenger flights to and from India.

“The flights mounted during the period of May 1 to May 3 from India were full cargo flights,” it said.
