Flowers for mum from M’sians abroad
GEORGE TOWN: For Malaysians abroad, the best way to give their mums a lovely Mother’s Day surprise is to contact local florists online.
“Many of them shared that they were stranded overseas and could not come back to visit since the pandemic started, so they requested we deliver bouquets for the occasion,” said florist Lisa Sin, 26.
Thus, the orders have come in for blooms, soaps and bouquets made of bank notes, among others, from Malaysians stranded in countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom and Singapore, she added.
Sin said she received many bouquet orders from overseas this year.
“We are seeing fewer orders from locals but we received many direct overseas calls and online bookings for bouquets to be delivered on the days leading up to Mother’s Day,” she added.
She said the most sought after bouquets were those made with roses, folded RM5 and RM10 notes, and flowers carved out of soap.
As Mother’s Day falls on May 9 this year, which is a Sunday, Sin said many of her customers had arranged for an early bouquet delivery on weekdays to surprise their mothers.
“They prefer sending the bouquet on a weekday to their mother’s working address, where possible.
“This will be a much more pleasant surprise than sending the flowers or bouquets to their home,” she added.
At another florist store here in Taman Lip Sin, employer Jo Ang said besides orders from overseas, they had also received bookings from people in other states.
“The orders we received are mostly from people in Kedah, Selangor and Johor Baru.
“Most of them order rose bouquets and bouquets mixed with baby’s breath,” added Ang, 46.
