Gang makes a tidy profit from rubbish bins

-

SERDANG: One man’s trash may be another man’s treasure but what about the rubbish bin?

According to the recently busted Gang Roro, it brought a nice little profit throughout the six months the gang members had been active.

Police investigations showed they were responsible for numerous thefts of rubbish disposal containers in Serdang and Klang Valley. At night, the group would tow away these containers before transporting them to an oil palm estate in Sungai Tangkas, Kajang.

There, the group would modify the containers, erasing any identifying markings while adding their own business logos.

A fellow gang member, who owns a business renting out these containers, would reap profits from these stolen items.

It is believed that they could rake in around RM150 to RM200 a day, per container, from charging rental fees.

Acting OCPD Supt Mohd Rusdi Daud said the gang was busted on April 28 after police raided the estate.

“Five suspects were arrested. The main suspect had 20 previous records and was released in August last year after completing his Prevention of Crime Act sentence,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

A total of 14 containers were seized during the raid, along with other tools used by the gang. The value of the stolen containers was estimated to be around RM5,000 to RM6,000 each.

“With the arrests, at least 14 cases within Serdang and Klang Valley have been solved,” he said.
