Priority should be to vaccinate the working population

MALAYSIA has adopted the strategy used by Western countries in vaccinating the general public, which is to prioritise senior citizens or the elderly who are considered the most vulnerable.

In my opinion, this strategy is faulty because in the first place the elderly or senior citizens, although considered the most vulnerable, hardly go out in public or mingle in shopping malls.

In fact, senior citizens are the most obedient people; if you ask them not to go out because they are too vulnerable, chances are that they will stay at home.

If the government wants to open up the economy as soon as possible, then the working population should be prioritised.

Vaccinating the workforce can be done easily. Give employers a timeline as to how they must get their workers vaccinated. Management of companies should get at least 30% of their workers vaccinated before they are allowed to open for business, 50% by maybe two months if they want to continue operating, 75% by an x number of months and so on.

With this ruling in place, I believe employers will be lining up to get their workers vaccinated before the targeted dates.

As far as I know, the hotspots are in bigger towns and where all the industries are. So, the government should start prioritising the vaccination of workers and people in these areas. Henry WF LEE Petaling Jaya
