Investment training on the cards

UNDERGRADUATES at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) will soon be given a leg up in financial literacy and investment training, according to a press release dated May 10.

The boost is the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UTAR and UOB Asset Management (M) Bhd (UOBAM).

Through the three-year collaboration, UTAR undergraduates will take part in a series of seminars and workshops held by UOBAM.

Topics will include the investment industry landscape, the global economic and market outlook, stock selection fundamentals and technical analysis, as well as the impact of financial technology on the investment industry.

Selected UTAR students will be able to experience on-the-job training with UOBAM via a three-month internship programme.

Present at the virtual MoU signing ceremony were UTAR president Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat and UOBAM chief executive officer Lim Suet Ling.

Prof Ewe said joint education and continuous training efforts to promote awareness of unit trust investments among UTAR students will bridge their knowledge gap as they plan for a career in the financial industry.

“Integrated education strategies encompassing traditional and digital channels will enable our students with a growth-focused mindset to look at investments from a much broader strategic and management perspective.

“It will also improve their expertise in financial planning, analysis and professional ethics, thereby equipping them with fundamental skills relevant to the future,” he added.

Lim said that UOBAM is honoured to collaborate with a tertiary institution such as UTAR.

“This is a testament to our support of UTAR’s industryacademic initiative in nurturing young talent to become future industry leaders.”

There are also plans for UOBAM to work with UTAR in implementing industrial research and consultancy project papers in the areas of technology and social innovation for UOBAM’s clients and the investing community.
