Chain of events in the AIN HUSNIZA SAIFUL NIZAM case

-

APRIL 23 Ain Husniza posted a video on TikTok, talking about a male teacher who allegedly joked about rape during class. She also explained the situation in a series of tweets and started the #MakeSchoolASaferPlace movement.

APRIL 24 > The video went viral and sparked a nationwide debate on making schools safe.

> She said when she consulted her counselling teacher about the next course of action, the teacher excused the accused’s behaviour and called it “normal”.

> She made a police report against the accused teacher.

APRIL 26 She alleged that she received rape threats from her male schoolmates.

MAY 1 > The #MakeSchoolASaferPlace movement sparked a Nationwide School Walkout Day (NSWD) by the NSWD Alliance.

> The Alliance, made up of a coalition of non-governmental organisations, called for students and teachers to protest against rape culture and sexual harassment by being absent from school for one day as part of the #MakeSchoolASaferPlace movement.

MAY 3 > Ain Husniza and her father Saiful Nizam Abdul Wahab weren’t for the NSWD.

> She said there are better ways to protest against sexual harassment than skipping or staying away from school while he feared the walkout would court more negativity.

MAY 12 > The Education Ministry said the teacher has been transferred to the state education department pending a police investigation.

> The next course of action would depend on the outcome of the probe.
