JDT’S Mora: Individual flair don’t make a team good

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) Brazilian hotshot Bergson Da Silva (pic) is well on his way to capturing the Golden Boot award.

The 30-year-old has scored a whopping 17 goals in 15 matches to put the Southern Tigers on track for an eighth consecutive Super League title.

Da Silva, a former stalwart at Brazilian club Fortaleza, will definitely be out to increase his goal tally when JDT play Sabah at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri tonight.

JDT coach Benjamin Mora, obviously happy with Da Silva’s rich vein of form, was quick to point out that the Brazilian needs the ‘ammunitions’ from this teammates to get on the score sheet.

JDT are currently on a six-game winning streak. They started with a 1-0 win over Kedah on May 4. Since then, they have beaten Penang (3-0, away), UITM (3-1, home), Selangor (3-1, away), Perak (5-0, home) and Melaka (1-0, away).

They topped the standings with 42 points, eight ahead of second-place Terengganu, who have 34 points with five games left in the league.

Mora pointed out that the team’s good form has been due to their collectiveness and not due to one or two individuals.

“We at JDT play as a collective unit. We don’t play for one player only. We don’t play for Bergson, and Bergson plays for JDT,” said Mora.

“If he wins the top scorer’s award, then it is good for him ... but that is not important for the team.

“We are focused on getting three points in every match. The schedule has been tight so we have to find the right dynamics and balance. Basically it is being intelligent with the way we play.

“We will be playing Sabah at home and we always like to play at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. In this final stage of the league we have to go all out and make sure to implant in our heads that only winning matters.”
