MALAYSIAN teachers and students recorded the most number of logins to Google Classroom and Google Meet in the Asia-pacific region.

Education Ministry Educational Resources and Technology Division principal assistant director Dr Wagheeh Shukry Hassan said there are over a million logins to these apps weekly through the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (Delima) platform.

“Both these apps are used often by teachers during their online teaching and learning (PDP),” he said at the “Guru Pemangkin Transformasi Pendidikan” virtual event on July 28.

He aded that new features such as Google Workspace will be added to Delima to allow school timetables to be created within Google Classroom.

At the same event, the division’s director Maznah Abu Bakar said some 5,000 national school teachers have the chance to upskill and improve their ability in conducting lessons online through the free Delima Certification Programme.

She said these teachers can apply to become Google Certified Educators Level 1 (beginner) and Level 2 (intermediate).

“In addition to getting this certification, you will become highly skilled teachers capable of conducting online teaching and learning successfully,” she added.

Maznah said besides these two courses, teachers can sign up for courses by other vendors.

She added that the courses, which are available on a first come, first served basis, are offered by the Education Ministry and Google Malaysia.

Maznah also said that teachers should take this opportunity to upskill themselves as hybrid PDP – which consists of digital and face-toface lessons – is here to stay, even after the Covid-19 pandemic is over.
