Look what else I found in The Star! You’ll be amazed at how much material you can find in The Star that is related to the poems you are studying!

the almost 1kg octopus bought for just RM20 at Pulau tikus Market after prices fell when market-goers stayed away due to Covid-19 rumours.

Activity 1

How many of you enjoy eating octopus? Find out the difference between octopus and squid.

1. Has your mum or anyone in your family cooked octopus? Ask this person to dictate the recipe to you while you write it down.

2. Get creative again! Turn the recipe into a verse and you have a recipe poem! Share with someone who enjoys eating octopus.

Example:

1kg baby octopus Cleaned and seasoned

3 cloves garlic coarsely chopped

Activity 2

Here’s something else I found in the Comics section of The Star.

1. Draw your octopus. Create your own little language quiz or octopus-related quiz on its body.

2. Exchange your octopus quiz sheet (online, if at home) with a classmate. Complete each other’s quiz. Talk about it afterwards.

Activity 3

Play catch! Your parents or teachers can tell you about this game called the “Mother Hen and the Chicks” or “The Eagle and the Chicks”. Your game is called “The Octopus and the Fish”.

We will change the game a little. If you’re in school, you can easily play this fun game with your friends.

If you’re still at home, have some fun with your family members:

First, find some play space. You are “Octopus” (you may choose a creative name for yourself). Others play “Fish” lined up in a row or staying close to one another (we call this kind of formation a ___?____ of fish).

There is a line dividing the octopus from the fish. Move fast and use your arms – wildly like the octopus – to tag any fish you can. They now become octopuses! The more octopuses on your side, the more hands and legs you have to catch the remaining fish! Have fun!

Activity 4

Look at what else just jumped out from the pages of

The Star !Thisis called a

_____?_____ lizard.

Would you like to have this as a pet?

Explain why or why not.

Some scientists are saying the blood of this water reptile may help to control cancer and even the coronavirus. That’s good news for all.

Task: Choose one animal, bird or insect and write a short “Thank you” note to show how useful or helpful it is to you.
