New daily high recorded, more clusters identified

THE country has detected a record number of 55 new Covid-19 cases in a single day, including a new high of 22 new cases of unknown sources.

With the latest infections, the national tally of confirmed cases stand at 598.

Another two new clusters were also identified – Cluster 451 and Cluster 477.

Health Minister Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar outlined the latest infection numbers during a press conference at the Health Ministry yesterday.

“The two newest clusters are three new cases linked with Case 451 which was reported on Aug 11. This is now known as Cluster 451.

“Two new cases today are linked to Case 477, also reported on Aug 11. This cluster is now known as Cluster 477,” he said.

One import case was reported. The case arrived in Brunei from the United Kingdom on July 30.

The minister said there were 22 cases where the sources of infection were still being determined.

The cases in the active clusters are individual­s being quarantine­d and found to be in contact with several confirmed cases. Contact tracing for these new cases is ongoing.

With the increase of cases in the Immigratio­n Cluster, the minister urged those who visited counters in the Immigratio­n and National Registrati­on Department in Bandar Seri Begawan between Aug 2 and Aug 9 and were experienci­ng symptoms of infection to immediatel­y seek treatment and undergo SARSCOV-2 tests at swabbing centres.

Currently, there are 368 active cases. Among them, two are in critical condition.
