Boo set to ‘step down’ from top MGA post
THE Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) is expected to lose the services of vice-president CC Boo in what could be a heavy blow for the national body.
It is understood that the veteran rules official has already submitted his resignation letter to the national association and cited personal reasons for his withdrawal.
The Johor resident has been part of the local golf rules fraternity since qualifying some 15 years ago.
He has been chairman of the MGA Rules Committee for the better part of the last decade and rose to become a vicepresident of the organisation five years ago.
Widely travelled, Boo has officiated at four US Open championships, a British Open and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016.
At the just concluded 2020 Tokyo Games he served as the team manager of the golf contingent that comprised Gavin Green in the men’s event and Kelly Tan in the women’s.
Boo has also refereed at other big international tournaments, including on the European Tour, the Asian Tour and more than just a few events of the regional Asia-pacific Confederation.
His portfolio includes running numerous refereeing schools and clinics with a view to bolstering the local game and conducted under the auspices of the R&A, the world governing body that Malaysia falls under.
In the event that he does leave the MGA, Boo’s absence will be seen by many as a huge void that would difficult to fill in the immediate future.
Efforts to get comment from him and the Malaysian Golf Association, on what some sources said was Boo’s imminent departure, proved unsuccessful at the time of going to press.
