No ifs and buts about it – Olusegun is too hot to handle

-

PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s hotshot Ifedayo Olusegun is simply unstoppable.

The Nigerian-bahraini player scored a hattrick in Selangor’s 4-2 win over Kedah at the Darulaman Stadium on Friday and is on track to win the Golden Boot.

The 30-year-old struck in the 28th, 75th and 92nd minutes, while Mohd Danial Mohd Asri was also on target for the Red Giants in the 31st minute.

Kedah kept pace with Selangor in the first half through goals by Kpah Sherman (24th minute) and M. Anumanthan Kumar (44th) but they were buried in the second half.

Selangor are now fourth in the Super League with 29 points while Kedah dropped to fifth with 26 points, but they have four games in hand.

Olusegun is now the league’s top scorer with 20 goals and is truly cementing himself as one of the best marksmen in Malaysia with his predatory skills and ice-cool finishing. And he is not one to take credit for himself as he applauded the team for the success.

“We did our best and got three points. I’m here to score goals and get wins. As a team, we will keep doing that, and hopefully, we will be in a good spot when the season ends,” he said.

“We kept the tempo in a blistering pace against Kedah, and we found the loopholes in their defence. All the goals were created, thanks to our fast plays.”

Olusegun praised the youngsters in the team like winger Danial and playmaker Hein Htet Aung, who caused lots of problems for Kedah.

“These boys are on their toes all the time and are good listeners. We’ve been linking up well. They love the game, want to grow and are very dedicated, and I like them.”
