Small wonder Faisal taking the Mickey out of big rivals

- By T. AVINESHWARAN

PETALING JAYA: Faisal Halim may be one of the smallest players in the Super League but he has played a big role in Terengganu’s good run in the league.

In 18 games, the winger from Penang, who stands at 1.58m, has scored four goals, created three assists and continues to be the Turtles’ livewire.

With four games left before the league ends, the player fondly known as Mickey, has vowed to stand tall for the team coached by Nafuzi Zain.

“It has been going really good for me. I’ve fit into the system pretty well under coach Nafuzi,” said the 23-year-old Faisal.

“I can click with all the players. I believe we will only get better as the season draws near to an end.”

He has gelled well with Makan Konate, David Da Silva, Dechi Marcel Nguessan, Habib Haroon and Hakimi Abdullah.

“I try to keep the environment lively and crack jokes with them ... it’s one of the best ways to create good chemistry.

“Terengganu have turned me into a good player. I can compete with some of the big names in the league without any fear. I hope my current form will lead to a national call-up soon.”

Terengganu are in second position behind leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim in the league and they have a good chance to play in the AFC Cup next year if they remain in that spot.

“We’ve maintained our position in the top two because all the players are able to follow the plans well,” said Faisal, who was with Pahang for five years before joining Terengganu this season.

“We will go all out in the next four games to remain second and help the team qualify for the AFC Cup.”
