‘Little tiger’ Feirish has grown up, and he’s in the us on dual mission
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Little Tiger is no longer little anymore.
Feirish Nor Feizal Nor, who aspires to be like Tiger Woods, has left for the United States to pursue his dream to be a successful professional golfer for the country one day.
The 18-year-old, who was named Little Tiger for his dominating show during his junior days since he was 10, will be joining University of Charleston in West Virginia on a dual mission – to obtain a degree in Business Analytics and to participate in NCAA Division Two golf events under the university’s banner.
Feirish, who was named as the Malaysia Junior Golfer of the Year by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) twice in 2015 and 2018, is thrilled to take his golf career to a higher level.
“It’s very exciting indeed,” said Feirish before leaving for his new adventure.
“Golf activities here had closed for a long time for juniors (since the Covid-19 pandemic) and the scene was not so good.
“My parents and I have waited for this opportunity. I know, playing in a junior event here is different from where I’m going to now ... it’s all about changing the mindset really. I will adapt.”
In his junior days, Feirish was so fascinated by his role model Woods that he would copy and follow every move made by the American, which eventually earned him the name Little Tiger (LT).
“I’ve grown up but Woods is still my idol and Gavin Green too. The transition from a junior to the next level is the hardest but I’ve seen how others have improved.
“I want to be the country’s most successful golfer, I want to win titles for the country ... but for now, my parents are clear - it’s degree first and then, pro.”
One of the challenges that Feirish is dealing with is his physical change.
“There are changes in my body since I hit puberty. I’m no longer small and I’m still growing and it does have some effect in your game,” he said.
“For example, the grip on the club is different now, my club yardages increases tremendously and there are other things too. It’s all a learning process.
“During the lockdown, it gave me time to adjust and adapt to these changes. I focused more on physical training, which was good.”
“I just want to thank every one who has been part of my journey as a junior golfer. I’m anxious of what lies ahead for me – but thrilled too as this is what I’ve been wanting to do since I was small,” added the confident Feirish.
