Activity 1

1. On July 20, 2020, The Star published a news story with an interesting title: A teeth-chattering concern. Yes, your teeth chatter when you are shivering with cold. Your teeth also chatter when you feel (choose from the words given): a______________, f____________, and w_____________.

worried this article tells us what we know – that a visit to the dentist is high on our “dreaded list”. It gives us some facts from a 2019 survey: very few old folks visit the dentist compared to you, children. Bravo!

2. Can you give one main reason why Malaysians dread going to the dentist? then, find and read the part of the article online where the reason is given. Does your reason match the reason given by the writer?

3. Make two lists and add to the examples given: (leave out “visit to the dentist”. We already know that.)

Activity 2

1. after you have completed nie activity 1(3) above, use some of the words to write two paragraphs (or more) about what you dread and what you wish for. Or, write a poem of one stanza each (or more) titled: “I Dread” and “I Wish.” You can also choose to write one line for “I Dread” followed by a line for “I Wish” and continue in this way.

2. read aloud to share with others. Let your voice for “dread” sound different from your voice for “wish”.

3. read some short news stories in The Star about what some people dread and what they wish for during these challenging times. Make a list. How similar or different is this list from yours?

Activity 3

1. search The Star for food items that you know are good for your teeth. Cut them out and paste them to fit your drawing of a big tooth on a large sheet of paper.

2. Write a few lines about why these types of food are good for your teeth. snap a photo of your work and share it with your friends. i. How similar or different is your picture chart from theirs? ii. are you eating enough of the food items mentioned? If not, what can you do? iii. show and share these food items with your parents. explain what this is about.
