SERDANG: Police seized cocaine and ephedrine worth more than Rm50mil after crippling a drug distribution ring here.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain said police conducted seven raids in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur between Sept 10 and 16.

“We arrested five men and two women, aged between 27 and 57. Five of them are foreigners. “We also seized 4.87kg of cocaine. “Investigations revealed that the syndicate was selling the drugs locally as well as shipping it to Hong Kong and Qatar,” he told reporters yesterday.

He said during one of the seven raids, police seized 174 sacks containing at least 5.5 tonnes of brown powder.

“Initial checks revealed the substance to be ephedrine, which is used to make methamphetamine and MDMA.

“The cocaine and ephedrine alone that were seized are believed to be worth more than Rm50mil,” he said, adding that the suspects had been remanded until Sept 24 to help with investigations.

He said police also seized equipment believed to be used to process the drugs.

Comm Razarudin said his team was working hard to prevent cocaine distribution syndicates from taking root in Malaysia.
