Hundreds drawn to visit once-forgotten ‘hidden beach’

ONCE a forgotten beach, Pantai Nusuk (pic) is now the centre of attraction in Kampung Sabak, Pengkalan Chepa, with hundreds visiting every day.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the privately owned land, previously known as Tanjung Kuala Sebak, was recently renamed Pantai Nusuk, which means “hidden beach” in the local Kelantanese dialect.

The manager of the 20ha beach, Samsuddin Daud, 45, said his family took about two years with RM50,000 in capital to transform the beach into a tourist attraction.

He said the beach, which was previously abandoned and filled with bushes, gained public attention through social media when the tourism industry was allowed to operate.

“Pantai Nusuk started after I opened a restaurant there more than two years ago. I named the restaurant ‘Kedai Nusuk’ because it is hidden from public view.

“When I first saw this area, I realised the beach has the potential to attract visitors because of the clean white sand and the terrain is suitable for swimming and water activities.

“After getting permission from the landowners, my family and I cleared the bushes and beautified the area, including providing facilities for visitors,” Samsuddin said.

He said he had made an agreement with the landowners there to pay rent to them at a certain rate if the area was successfully developed as a tourist destination.

“If the government wants to help me develop Pantai Nusuk, I welcome it,” he said.

He said the number of visitors to Pantai Nusuk was now estimated at about 300 to 500 people a day and the number would grow, especially on weekends.

In her Instagram post, Nourul, whose real name is Noorul Huda Abdul Wahab, 44, uploaded a video of her waiting for a flight accompanied by her husband Eric Daniel, 55, and children – Zachary, eight, Raphael, six, and Isabella, two.

Meanwhile, the eldest child from a previous marriage with composer Ajai, Ayu Nazirah, 23, did not join them as she decided to remain in Malaysia to run her business.

Nourul said her family chose Bali because her husband used to live there for two years previously.
