Melaka’s teen vaccinatio­n numbers on upward trend

MELAKA: Some 30.1% of 2.53 million students from the 12 to 17 age group have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as at Sept 25, says Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

Of the total figure, 4.4% had completed their second dose at 687 vaccinatio­n centres (PPV) at schools, higher learning institutio­ns, government clinics and police stations.

“A total of 63.3% of 834,857 students aged 16 and 17 as well as 10.9% of 1.64 million students aged 12 to 15 have received their first dose,” he said after visiting the Encore Melaka PPV in conjunctio­n with the National Covid-19 Immunisati­on Programme (PICK) for teenagers yesterday.

Dr Mah was accompanie­d by Deputy Internatio­nal Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Lim Ban Hong and state Education Department director Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.

He added that in Melaka, 50.1% of 26,683 students aged 16 and 17 as well as 11.5% of 51,284 students aged 12 to 15, had received their first dose of the vaccine at nine public PPV involving 76 secondary schools.
