Six friends fined for crossing state borders

-

KUALA TERENGGANU: With Langkawi the only tourism bubble for now, no interstate travel is permitted for other holiday destinations.

This is what six friends found to their detriment when they were issued a compound of RM5,000 each for crossing the state border to holiday in Pulau Redang, Kuala Nerus.

Terengganu police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said the group, which included a woman, were aged between 32 and 47.

“Two of them crossed the state line from Kuala Lumpur, two others from Selangor while the other two were from Penang and Melaka,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The compound, he added, was issued last week as part of a two-day compliance operation for the tourism sector under Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan.

“Such an operation will continue from time to time to ensure there is no violation of the SOP to prevent an increase in Covid-19 infections and transmissions in Terengganu,” he said.
