Leaders discuss strengthening China-vietnam ties
VIETNAMESE Party general secretary nguyen Phu Trong held talks with President of China Xi Jinping, highlighting free trade agreements, cross-border economic cooperation, pandemic control, border management and maritime cooperation.
Trong congratulated Xi over China’s “great” achievement under the leadership of the Communist Party and expressed his admiration over China’s success in pandemic control and socio-economic development.
Trong added that though the Covid-19 pandemic had deep impacts on all aspects of life as well as exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, the Vietnam-china relationship would continue to maintain its development momentum.
In the telephone conversation with Trong on Friday, Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed that the two socialist neighbours are a community with a shared future that enjoys strategic significance.
“It is in the two nations’ most fundamental, common and strategic interests to safeguard the security of Communist parties’ governance and that of the socialist system,” Xi said.
efforts should be made to uphold the fundamental interests of the two parties, the two countries and the two peoples, and make positive contributions to the peace and development of the region and the world at large, he added.
Xi called on the two countries to step up synergies between their development strategies, intensify coordination and cooperation in regional and international affairs and practice true multilateralism for win-win cooperation.
Trong expressed his thanks to China for sharing experiences and in supporting Vietnam with vaccines for prevention and control measures.
“I hope that we can continue to prioritise cooperation in post-pandemic recovery and development, Trong said to Xi.
The Vietnamese leader said Vietnam stands ready to strengthen inter-party exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields with China to promote their socialist cause and jointly promote regional and global peace and stability, he added.
He emphasised strengthening exchanges at high levels, as well as ministerial and local levels.
Trong proposed strengthening substantive cooperation in all fields so that this would become the foundation and driving force for the development of the two countries.
He suggested the two sides continue to implement the agreements reached, including on free trade and the cross-border economy while recommending China continue to create favourable conditions to develop trade between the two countries in a more balanced way.
He also proposed China speed up the licensing procedures for the import of a number of Vietnam’s agricultural products and asked for increased investment in large projects and continue promoting people-to-people exchanges at all levels in different forms.
