Leaders discuss strengthen­ing China-vietnam ties

VIETNAMESE Party general secretary nguyen Phu Trong held talks with President of China Xi Jinping, highlighti­ng free trade agreements, cross-border economic cooperatio­n, pandemic control, border management and maritime cooperatio­n.

Trong congratula­ted Xi over China’s “great” achievemen­t under the leadership of the Communist Party and expressed his admiration over China’s success in pandemic control and socio-economic developmen­t.

Trong added that though the Covid-19 pandemic had deep impacts on all aspects of life as well as exchanges and cooperatio­n between the two countries, the Vietnam-china relationsh­ip would continue to maintain its developmen­t momentum.

In the telephone conversati­on with Trong on Friday, Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed that the two socialist neighbours are a community with a shared future that enjoys strategic significan­ce.

“It is in the two nations’ most fundamenta­l, common and strategic interests to safeguard the security of Communist parties’ governance and that of the socialist system,” Xi said.

Xi called on the two countries to step up synergies between their developmen­t strategies, intensify coordinati­on and cooperatio­n in regional and internatio­nal affairs and practice true multilater­alism for win-win cooperatio­n.

Trong expressed his thanks to China for sharing experience­s and in supporting Vietnam with vaccines for prevention and control measures.

“I hope that we can continue to prioritise cooperatio­n in post-pandemic recovery and developmen­t, Trong said to Xi.

The Vietnamese leader said Vietnam stands ready to strengthen inter-party exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperatio­n in various fields with China to promote their socialist cause and jointly promote regional and global peace and stability, he added.

He emphasised strengthen­ing exchanges at high levels, as well as ministeria­l and local levels.

Trong proposed strengthen­ing substantiv­e cooperatio­n in all fields so that this would become the foundation and driving force for the developmen­t of the two countries.

He suggested the two sides continue to implement the agreements reached, including on free trade and the cross-border economy while recommendi­ng China continue to create favourable conditions to develop trade between the two countries in a more balanced way.

He also proposed China speed up the licensing procedures for the import of a number of Vietnam’s agricultur­al products and asked for increased investment in large projects and continue promoting people-to-people exchanges at all levels in different forms.
