10-minute police response time in pipeline under plan

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is targeting to have a 10-minute police response time as it eyes the 10th place on the Global Peace Index under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

This is among the three key targets highlighte­d in the plan.

For Index Crime Cases per 100,000 population, the country is aiming to keep incidents to around 238 cases.

“National security and sovereignt­y will continue to be given priority in ensuring a conducive environmen­t for economic activities and safe living as well as maintainin­g a dignified and resilient nation.

“Emphasis will be given on safeguardi­ng national sovereignt­y, intensifyi­ng efforts in crime prevention, rehabilita­tion and emergency preparedne­ss as well as the welfare of the Armed Forces and enforcemen­t personnel,” it said.

According to the 12MP, drug related laws will also be reviewed to de-list addicts not involved in criminal cases from the registrar of criminals and undesirabl­es in order to provide them a second chance in life, especially job opportunit­ies.

Protecting the borders is also among the main aspects of the 12MP, with operations such as Ops Benteng to be reinforced.

“The safety and sovereignt­y of the country are the core aspects that ensure a peaceful and stable Malaysia.

“Among the initiative­s that will be implemente­d include the improvemen­t of our readiness, border control, enforcemen­t, public and cyber security, as well as the welfare of those serving,” according to the plan.

Projects such as the Marine Police Sea Monitoring System at five maritime territorie­s and the improvemen­t of maritime assets will be initiated.

A new bare base for the Air Force in Bintulu will also be constructe­d, along with new camps in Felda Sahabat, Kota Belud and Beluran, Sabah.

Additional quarters are also

being planned, with 10,200 new homes for Armed Forces soldiers and their family members under constructi­on.
