PUTRAJAYA: Federal Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain has been appointed Deputy Inspector-general of Police. His appointment will take effect from Sunday.

Comm Razarudin, 58, is taking over from Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim who will be on mandatory retirement.

Congratulating the new Deputy IGP, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said Comm Razarudin has a good track record in combating the drug menace in the country as head of NCID.

“I believe the combination of Comm Razarudin and IGP Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani will strengthen the police force even further in ensuring the country’s safety and security,” he said after handing Comm Razarudin his appointment letter yesterday.

Hamzah also thanked Mazlan for his service and sacrifice.

He added that the new NCID director would be appointed soon.

Comm Razarudin had served in various levels of the police force including as Kudat OCPD, Penang CID chief, Sabah deputy commissioner of police, Perak deputy police chief and later Perak police chief before heading the Federal NCID.

Meanwhile on the flood situation, Hamzah said the police have established a tactical base in Hulu Langat to better assist the victims after many residents informed them that there were no relief centres in the area.

“Some areas in Hulu Langat are also hard

to access given that they are in rural areas.

“In some areas, people cannot go out and we can’t go in (to provide assistance),” he said, adding that the base would be a field operation centre with a commanding officer to coordinate aid operations.

“It will also strengthen clean-up operations and ensure the welfare of victims,” he added.

Hamzah also said he had requested additional funding from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Finance Minister

Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to purchase 50 boats for the police force.

“Most of our assets are in the east coast and in Selangor, it is not enough to assist agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force.

“We can deploy the additional boats at police stations as rain is expected to last until February.

“It is important we make early preparations for Selangor,” he said.
