Pakatan hopes to snatch a few seats in Kelantan

-

KOTA BARU: Pakatan Harapan is hoping that PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s personality will enable it to snatch a few seats in Kelantan, says its state chief Muhammad Hussain.

“We can see that there’s this new wave where the people in Kelantan rejected Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.

“This time around we are not contesting for the state seats. So it all depends on our strengths and the issues that we highlighted.

“Pakatan is saying that Anwar can offer solutions to the nation’s problems,” he said when contacted.

Gua Musang Barisan Nasional, however, said it relied on the party as well as the personality of its veteran leader Tengku Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah to win votes.

Gua Musang Umno Puteri chief Norfazlete Aryani Mat Rosli said the division committee was previously told to identify a new candidate for Gua Musang after Tengku Razaleigh, better known as Ku Li, expressed his wish not to contest.

“He has been there for so long and he sees other political veterans retiring.

“So he refused to contest. He said it three times and the mandate was given to the division committee to identify a new candidate but the committee still chose him to continue. So he had no choice but to accept,” she said.

Last year, Ku Li reportedly said that he was asked to contest in Gua Musang due to concerns that the seat would no longer be a “safe” seat should it be given to another candidate.
