Wan Junaidi: Postal ballot papers issued on Nov 7

-

PETALING JAYA: Registered postal voters must ensure their ballot papers reach the designated returning officers before 5pm on Saturday, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) said postal ballot papers for individuals and Armed Forces personnel were issued on Nov 7 as part of the normal electoral process.

“As such, no issue should arise in casting their votes, and this is the usual process for all elections, be it a by-election or a general election.

“It is up to the registered individuals who have received the postal ballot paper to cast their votes. What is important is that it must reach the relevant office of the returning officer before 5pm on polling day,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Wan Junaidi pointed out that the candidates’ agents had been informed about this.

He was refuting claims by Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday that military personnel and postal voters in Bera had already cast their votes for GE15.

Anwar also alleged that those involved were paid RM300 each.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is defending Bera in GE15.

On Sunday, Defence Forces Chief Jen Tan Sri Affendi Buang said that Nov 15 (today) was early voting day for Malaysian Armed Forces personnel and their spouses as per Election Regulations.

This involves 146,737 voters casting their ballots at 153 Armed Forces polling centres nationwide.

The Election Commission has since called on those with information on alleged vote buying to come forward.
