Strong winds destroy 15 homes in water village
KOTA KINABALU: Strong winds blew roofs off and destroyed some 15 semi-concrete houses at a water village in Kudat.
The 7am incident yesterday at Tanjung Kapur Tengah Kudat left the affected families in much difficulty.
It is learnt that most of them were already out at work or at school while some were outside running errands when strong winds began rattling structures mainly made from plywood and zinc.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said a distress call was received at 7.41am.
“Our personnel were deployed to check the situation and found that no one was injured,” he said.
He added that operations ceased at 8.07am after inspections on hazard elements were completed.
The strong winds were believed to have lasted for several minutes.
