Simons has enjoyed a fruitful campaign so far for PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch League, scoring eight goals in 13 league matches.

He has never played for his country at senior level before but has been picked by coach Louis Van Gaal due to his impressive club form.

With striker Memphis Depay still injured and set to miss the opening match against Senegal, Simons, boasting skill and guile in a balanced package, could just step in early and make a quick impact.

His understanding with PSV teammate and striker Cody Gakpo could also turn out to be a hit combo for the Oranje.
