TANJUNG MALIM: Transportation will be provided for voters in Tanjung Malim on polling day, says Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, as he assured those in more remote areas that they need not worry about the issue of logistics.

“We have been on the ground gathering information and compiling the number of voters requiring such a service. There will be transport to come pick you up,” he told the Orang Asli while making his campaign rounds at several settlements here yesterday.

Dr Mah, who is contesting the Tanjung Malim parliamentary seat, said facilities will also be arranged for those with special needs.

He said the Barisan Nasional team is in the midst of liaising with people on the ground to ensure all needs are met.

At the villages, Dr Mah reminded the people on the past efforts of the Barisan government in taking care of their welfare.

“You know it. How many times have you seen me these few years?

“Even when I was not the MP, after I lost in the previous general election, I still met all of you and listened to your requests,” he added.

Dr Mah also recalled the first time he entered the villages over five years ago, he noticed many of the children did not go to school.

He spoke to the parents, reminded them of the importance of education and managed to convince the adults.

“I helped to enrol the children and when I was appointed the deputy education minister, I upgraded the facilities at schools and made sure our children have a good environment so that they can focus on their studies,” he said.

Dr Mah added that he is not one who would make empty promises, citing the Orang Asli villages in Chenderiang as an example.

“You can ask the people in Chenderiang about my track record and performance when I was the state assemblyman there,” he said.

There are over 15,000 Orang Asli residing at 34 villages in the constituency, with the community making up 9% of the total voters there.
