A FAMILY in Manjung, Perak, is in dire straits financially after its breadwinner had a stroke last year and has been unable to work since, Kosmo! reported.

Security guard Megat Amri Megat Mahamad, 45, said he had to stop working after suffering a severe stroke when he was on duty last August.

He said the day before, he had felt some symptoms and went to a clinic for a check-up, but was told those were not signs of a stroke.

“The next day, I suffered a stroke at work,” he said, adding that he then went on six-month medical leave.

“But by March, the company asked me to quit as I still had not recovered and was unable to work,” said the wheelchair-bound man.

He said he was now unsure how he would support his wife and their three school-going children.

Despite being in a tight spot, Megat Amri said he was grateful for the support he got from his community and various charitable agencies.

“Thankfully, there are many parties who are concerned about families like us, such as the Socso (Social Security Organisation) Seri Manjung branch,” he added.

> Popular Suria FM host and comedian Shuib Sepahtu has denied accusations of having known entrepreneur Watie Hanafiah when his wife, well-known singer Siti Sarah Raissuddin, was still alive, reported Harian Metro.

Shuib, 38, said he had only got to know and become close friends with Watie, 34, recently.

The accusations arose after a photo he posted on social media on Nov 9 showing them together at a high-end restaurant went viral.

The father of four said he is worried about the mental health of his children after they heard about the allegations against him online.

“If you want to know how long I have known Watie, my answer is, not very long.

“My children already know about my personal life. The picture that went viral is not their first meeting with Watie and they are comfortable with her.

“Please do not spread slander against me as I’m afraid it might negatively affect my children’s mental health because they like to read about stuff online,” he pleaded.

Shuib and Siti Sarah were married in 2011. She lost her fight against Covid-19 in August last year.
