PETALING JAYA: Government officials were ordered to secure all official and classified documents throughout the GE15 election period, according to a circular by the chief government security office (CGSO).

The CGSO said only officers and staff members with written approvals are allowed to enter government offices during the election period.

“Written approvals to be given to officers with specified requirements to bring out documents or official secrets in media storage (devices),” said the circular dated Nov 15.

The CGSO also ordered security measures at ministry offices to be beefed up and all necessary maintenance work at these buildings carried out during this period must be “optimally supervised”.

“Tighten security measures by conducting patrols, carry out thorough inspections according to instructions and report any suspicious incidents directly to the department head and the department security officer,” said the CGSO.

Meanwhile, a government source said all administrative offices in ministries had been ordered to be closed from Nov 18-20, in order to avoid any unwanted incidents.

The source said the closure was in line with a circular dated Nov 15 by the CGSO on protecting government assets and secrets during GE15.
