New six-day Covid-19 cases down to 16,478 from 21,539

LUMPUR: New daily Covid-19 cases in the country during the six-day week fell to 16,478 (Nov 12-17) from 21,539 the previous period (Nov 5-10).

Daily Covid-19 cases remained below 3,500 and on Thursday, Malaysia recorded 3,457 new daily cases including nine deaths and two imported cases.

Out of 3,457 cases, Selangor took the top spot with 1,187 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur (322), Sabah (266), Melaka (262), Penang (216), Kedah (171), Pahang (159), Sarawak (158), Negri Sembilan (146), Perak (139), Putrajaya (131) and Kelantan (124).

States with two-digit figures were Johor (79), Terengganu (77) and Labuan (16).

Perlis emerged as the only state with single-digit cases, at four.

For the current month to date, new daily cases exceeded the 4,000 level only on Nov 3 (4,711), Nov 4 (4,360) and Nov 5 (4,621).

The last time new daily cases went over the 4,000 level was on Aug 14 at 4,071.

The lowest case was recorded on Nov 14 (1,749).

The surge in new daily Covid-19 cases in the country is linked to the highly transmissi­ble Omicron sub-variant XBB.

Meanwhile, active Covid-19 cases according to data from the Health Ministry’s KKMNOW site updated at 11.59pm on Thursday stood at 27,877 and of the total, 25,818 (92.6%) were quarantine­d at home.

New daily Covid-19 cases during the week compiled by Bernama from Nov 12 to 17 were: Nov 12 (2,882), Nov 13 (2,234), Nov 14 (1,749), Nov 15 (2,852), Nov 16 (3,304) and Nov 17 (3,457).

The daily cases from Nov 5 to 11 were: Nov 5 (4,621), Nov 6 (3,913), Nov 7 (2,521), Nov 8 (3,781), Nov 9 (3,267), Nov 10 (3,436) and Nov 11 (3,245).

New daily Covid-19 cases in neighbouri­ng Singapore for the period Nov 12 to 17 were: Nov 12 (1,940), Nov 13 (1,501), Nov 14 (1,312), Nov 15 (3,111), Nov 16 (2,184) and Nov 17 (2,088).

Meanwhile, a total of 3,736 recovered Covid-19 cases were reported in Malaysia on Thursday, bringing the cumulative cases as of that day to 4,895,719.

With a cumulative figure of 4,960,179 cases, Malaysia now ranks 27th in the list of 228 countries/ territorie­s hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ahead of Malaysia are Greece (5,306,482) and Ukraine (5,329,536).

According to Worldomete­r, of the list of 228 countries, Japan reported the highest new daily cases (93,005), followed by South Korea (55,437) and France (33,331).

On Covid-19 fatalities, the United States reported the highest number of Covid-19 fatalities at 1,101,838.

According to KKMNOW data as at 11.59pm on Thursday, 25,818 cases (92.6%) out of 27,877 Covid-19 cases were quarantine­d at home.

No case was reported at the Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC), 1,970 cases (7.1%) at hospitals, 43 cases (0.2%) at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) without respirator­y assistance (ABP) and 46 cases (0.1%) at the ICU with ABP.

As for recovered cases, there were: Nov 12 (4,730), Nov 13 (3,836), Nov 14 (2,564), Nov 15 (3,710), Nov 16 (3,045) and Nov 17 (3,736).

Active cases with probable infections were: Nov 12 (31,209), Nov 13 (29,605), Nov 14 (28,784), Nov 15 (27,914), Nov 16 (28,165) and Nov 17 (27,877).

According to Worldomete­r, total Covid-19 cases globally stood at 641,897,156 (previous week 637,283,239) with 6,621,589 deaths (6,613,471 deaths previously).

A total of 621,352,448 recovered cases were reported from 619,481,016 previously.

Some 228 countries are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and those in the top 10 of the list are the United States, India, France, Germany, Brazil, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and Russia.
