KL Aseel start MBLM campaign on winning note

- By KHOO JIAN TENG

PETALING JAYA: KL Aseel opened their Major Basketball League Malaysia (MBLM) season with an impressive 92-70 victory over Sunrise Youngsters despite playing without their import players at the Maba Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

Sunrise’s Kittitep Dasom, who top scored against Pegesus Brunei with 24 points on Wednesday, gave the team the early momentum but Aseel’s excellent shooting saw them taking a 12-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The 35-year-old Jai Reyes (pic) showed that age is no hindrance as he scored 10 points to help Aseel stretch their lead to 22 by the end of the third quarter as Sunrise’s cagers were bogged down by fatigue.

Aseel kept firm control of the game in the final quarter and faced little resistance as they cruised to the 92-70 win.

Aussie Jean-luc Morel was the top scorer for Sunrise with 20 points while Aseel’s Filipino Jai, who scored 23 points, was named Player Of The Game.

Meanwhile, Johor Southern Tigers romped to a 89-74 win over Singapore Adroit.

The Player Of The Game was none other than Tevin Glass who finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
