Eain yow bows out after makin-g it tough for Joel in Singapore

- PETALING JAYA:

Malaysian No. 1 Ng Eain Yow bowed out of the Singapore Squash Open yesterday but he did not let Welshman Joel Makin have an easy way to the semis.

World No. 9 Makin was forced to dig deep to come through his quarter-final contest with Eain Yow, winning 11-9, 11-3, 8-11, 11-8 after 65 minutes of high quality action.

Eain Yow pulled a stunning comeback from 3-8 down in the third game to eventually win 11-8 and take the match into a fourth game.

Makin was then able to just keep his nose in front throughout the fourth as Eain Yow made errors at crucial times.

“I don’t care about what happened in that final rally, I just had to get that stroke. That was all that mattered.

“He (referring to Eain Yow) is playing very well. People don’t realise the level he is playing at, taking out a few good players in a row, 3-2, 3-2. Beating Paul (Coll) from two down,” said Makin after the match.

Eain Yow stunned top seed and world No. 2 Coll of New Zealand 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 to reach the last eight earlier.
