GEORGE TOWN: A voter, who came in a Predator costume from the American science fiction movie franchise, was barred from voting because he refused to remove his mask.

The voter had turned up at the Desa Intan 7A polling centre in Farlim

dressed in the elaborate costume of the alien-hunting character.

However, the police on duty politely told him to go back and change if he wanted to exercise his voting right.

When asked, the mystery voter declined to give his name and other personal details, as well as the reason for appearing in costume.

At the SK Sri Aman in Kampung

Melayu, Muhamad Shah Rizal Mat Sahat, 32, also turned up in a costume, this time as Marvel hero, Captain America.

“I turned up as a superhero to encourage more 18-year-olds to come out to exercise their voting rights. This is my first time voting in a superhero costume,” he said.

Muhamad Shah was allowed to cast his vote after he removed his

mask inside the voting hall.

Meanwhile, nonagenarian Boey Swee Kiew had been eagerly waiting for her family to bring her to the polling station.

“I was up early today as I wanted to vote. I am happy to have done my part,” said the 90-year-old, who was accompanied by her granddaughter Ang Zhao Min, 36, at the polling station in Bayan Baru.

“Despite her age, she has never mentioned staying home during polling day. She can walk for short distances, but we decided to bring her in a wheelchair to make it easier,” said Ang.
