Aaliyah takes top honours thanks to her bag of tricks

PETALING JAYA: Waterskier Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah continues to amaze with another splashing show.

The 19-year-old bagged the tricks category in the Oceania Champion-ships at Max Kirwan Ski Park Mulwala in New South Wales, Australia yesterday.

She came close to beating her record in the jump category (41.9m) with her best distance of 41.3m.

She scored 7,970 points, with 8,080 points being her best so far.

She also did well to win the same category in the Fluid Showdown in Florida in June.

Aaliyah came in third in the slalom category as Meg Harraway of Australia took gold while Casey Wooderson of New Zealand came in second.

Meanwhile, her younger brother, Aiden Yoong Hanifah was eliminated in the first round of his tricks and slalom categories.

The 17-year-old only scored 2,280 in the trick category, missing the opportunit­y to beat his personal best of 5,680 while coming in last in slalom.
