Aguero gives country vote of confidence

PETALING JAYA: Eyebrows were raised when Pahang playmaker Sergio Aguero (pic) shared a photo of his inked finger.

And he had a good reason to post it on social media as the 28-year-old Argentine-born, who was granted Malaysian citizenship in September, had fulfilled his obligation in the 15th General Election on Saturday.

He had cast his vote at the Indera Mahkota parliamentary constituency and Semambu state seat.

Aguero was proud of his first voting experience and said it would not be his last.

“In any democracy, it’s the responsibility of a citizen to vote. Every vote counts, and I am proud to be part of that process. For me, it was an amazing experience to fulfil that duty with the rest of the Malaysian people,” said the former Perak and Penang player.

“It was nice to see so many happy faces going out to vote. As for Malaysian politics, yes, I know how the system works. I’ve always been intrigued by politics in every part of the world.

Not only had he fulfilled his duty as a Malaysian citizen by voting, but he also built a futsal court as the game is a favourite pastime for many Malaysians.

Aguero said when he came to this country, he saw many Malaysians playing the game, and that led him to build a court in Kuantan.

Known as the Sergio Aguero Court, it is the first centre to have Fifa-sized courts in Kuantan. The venue have three courts, and they have been operational since Friday.

“My friend and I decided to open our own futsal court, together with my wife and partners. Since the opening two days ago, the response has been brilliant.

“I want the people here to enjoy the game, stay fit and healthy. That’s my wish for the folks in Kuantan.”

As for his future, Aguero said he was negotiating with Pahang on extending his stay for the 2023 season.
