Zaqhwan crowned arrc 1000cc champ

PETALING JAYA: Honda Asia Dream Racing team rider Zaqhwan Zaidi is the Asia Superbike 1000cc champion of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championsh­ip (ARRC).

Zaqhwan finished top of the standings with 157 points as the curtain came down on ARRC this season.

He confirmed the win after finishing fifth in a 13-lap Race Two race with a time of 23:08.022 in season-finale Round 5 at the Chang Internatio­nal Circuit in Thailand yesterday.

Suhaithai Chaemsup of EEST NJT Racing emerged as the race winner with a time of 23:01.544.

SDG Motor Sports HARC-PRO Ph’s Ikuhiro Enokido took the second spot (23:06.347) while ONEXOX BMW TKKR Team’s Azlan Shah Kamaruzama­n came in third (23:07.374).

Andi Farid Izdihar of ASTRA Honda Racing Team showcased his prowess to win Race 2 of the Supersport­s 600cc category and snatch the overall title with 158 points.

Mohd Helmi Azman of Boon Siew Honda Racing Team also had the same number of points but lost the top spot as Andi had more wins (four) than Helmi (two).
