Man nabbed for stoning Selangor FC team bus

TERENGGANU: Police have arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of being involved in unruly behaviour against the Selangor FC team on Monday night.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said the suspect, a local, was nabbed while hurling stones at a bus carrying Selangor FC officials and players to their hotel after the Malaysia Cup second-leg semi-final at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium.

“The incident damaged the windows and body of the bus. A police report was lodged by the management of Selangor FC at the Gong Badak police station last night.

“The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code (for committing mischief), which provides imprisonment for up to five years or a fine or both if found guilty,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to Rohaimi, the incident is believed to have started when about 300 Terengganu FC supporters gathered outside the stadium as Selangor supporters were making their way out.

The police then took action to disperse the crowd and asked them to leave the stadium area.

“As the bus was leaving for the hotel accompanied by the police, several groups hurled hard objects and stones at the vehicle.

“However, after 2am, all the buses carrying Selangor supporters accompanied by the police safely entered the East Coast Expressway,” he added.

Rohaimi also warned football supporters to be more responsible and not to disrupt public order.

Selangor lost 1-0 to Terengganu in Monday’s match but made it to the final on a 3-2 aggregate after having won the first leg 3-1. – Bernama
